Winter can really drag on and just when you think it is over we get a cold snap or very wet weather, however spring is showing in the garden and now is a good time to plan for the summer plantings. Bulbs are emerging and buds are bursting on trees and shrubs.  February is the best month to move snowdrops when they are still green. Cut back stems of willow and other plants grown for their decorative bark. Prune out any dead wood in shrubs as it can be easly seen at this time of year. As well as plants showing new life so are the slugs. Plan to control them this year before they eat young plants.
