I had read lots about patio potato growing and seen the results of friends growing them ( and not that impressed) but never tried myself. Of course I have grown potatoes in the ground and had good yields so I decided to try growing three different varieties on the patio.
I ordered a kit from Suttons Seeds which took just a week to arrive, deliverd well packed and seed potatoes looking plump and healthy. Each variety had 6 tubers in its own net bag. The varities are:- Rocket descibed as white skin and white flesh. Firm, waxy texure. This is a First Early variety. Suitable for boiling. Charlotte a second early, described normally as a salad potato. With its distinctive long, oval shape, white skin and moist texture it is ideal for so much more than just salads. Vivaldi is a Second Early variety producing oval tubers with yellow skin and pale yellow flesh, which is resistant to scab.
Come back soon for details of me chitting my seed potatoes and planting the containers.
